About Us

National History

Phi Sigma Rho was founded in 1984 at Purdue University by two young women who desired to be part of the social Greek system, but did not have the time for formal recruitment due to their challenging class schedules. They wondered why there were fraternities specifically for engineering majors, but no sororities? So they decided to change that and create Phi Sigma Rho. On September 24, 1984, the first chapter was established with 10 charter members. There are currently 31 chapters of Phi Sigma Rho and we have alumnae located throughout the nation and around the world.

Shortly after, on November 2, 1991 we were officially founded as the Gamma chapter of Phi Sigma Rho with 26 original charter members. The Gamma Chapter is an active part of the Panhellenic community at UD, as well as an active member in the Dayton community.
